Dora #581 - 6.5 lbs of Wensleydale Raw Fleece Black Brown Wool Fiber
This rich and textured fleece comes from Dora (#581), a NAWSA-registered Wensleydale ewe. Grown over 10 months and sheared in January 2024, this 6.5 lb raw fleece showcases tight curly locks with a deep black-brown base beautifully accented by bright brown tips. Slightly greasy, it holds natural lanolin that protects and preserves the fiber’s softness and luster.
Dora’s fleece offers excellent bounce and definition—ideal for spinners and fiber artists looking for vibrant color contrasts and luxurious texture straight from the wool of the sheep. Its combination of density, curl, and warm highlights makes it a standout for a variety of fiber projects.

About Our Fleece
At Wild Rose Sheep Farm, we take great pride in breeding exceptional Wensleydale, Teeswater, and Valais Blacknose sheep, ensuring that every fleece embodies the highest standards of quality. Our customers consistently praise our fleeces for their cleanliness, luster, and overall excellence—a direct result of the care and attention we devote to our flock.
In just twelve months, our sheep’s locks can grow up to twelve inches in length. We typically shear our Wensleydales and Teeswaters every 10 to 14 months, while the Valais are shorn every 6 months. Valais fleece tends to have a toothier texture, while Wensleydale and Teeswater fleece are known for their high lanolin content and beautiful lock structure which lends them to have a greasier feel. Each raw fleece is meticulously skirted to remove dirt, hay, and straw, making them highly prized by hand-spinners and crafters alike.
