WENSLEYDALE EWES

Registered Wensleydale Breeding Stock

The Wensleydale is the world's only blue-faced longwool sheep — acknowledged as producing the finest lustre wool in the world. Wild Rose Farm has bred NAWSA-registered, high-percentage Wensleydales since 2008, using imported English and New Zealand semen to establish our 92–98% genetics. As the gene pool requires new bloodlines we actively import semen from high-quality UK and NZ sires — 100% stock cannot be imported directly from the UK, making breed-up programs essential.

Wensleydales produce the widest range of natural color wool of any breed we raise: white, silver, charcoal, brown, and black.

VALAIS BLACKNOSE Crossbred EWES

Valais F1 & F2 Breeding Stock

Our F1 ewes are VBSS-registered crosses from our Pure Valais purebred rams and registered Teeswater and Wensleydale base ewes — some of the nicest percentage Valais available in the Pacific Northwest.  Called the world's most beautiful sheep, the Valais Blacknose is a Swiss mountain breed documented in the Valais region of Switzerland since the 15th century — known for striking black facial markings, exceptional docility, and a coarse, lustrous fleece ideal for outer garments and felted work.

To establish this breed in the USA, Wild Rose Farm partnered with Shepherd's Lane of Oregon to found Pure Valais, LLC — employing embryo transfer to produce 100% purebred Valais Blacknose lambs with genetic diversity as the cornerstone. First lamb crops: 2021 and 2022. First naturally conceived purebred Valais lamb born in 2022.

TEESWATER EWES

Registered Teeswater Sheep — Rare Breed Conservation

Purchasing a Teeswater from Wild Rose Farm directly supports conservation of an endangered breed. Every registered animal added to a flock in North America strengthens the gene pool.

On the watch list of the Rare Breeds Survival Trust in the UK and added to the Livestock Conservancy's list of rare and endangered breeds in the US in May 2020, the Teeswater produces extraordinarily lustrous longwool with individual locks that hang without clumping and a staple length reaching 12–15 inches on first clip. Wild Rose Farm is one of a small number of dedicated Teeswater breeders in the US, with ATSA-registered animals carrying Royal Prince bloodlines direct from the UK. Some animals display distinctive dark chocolate to black facial markings around the nose and eyes.

Don't have room for a sheep?  The Livestock Conservancy's Shave 'Em to Save 'Em program is an excellent way to show your support for conserving this breed.  Every purchase of Teeswater wool builds awareness around protecting this truly amazing and endangered breed.

RAMS

Registered Rams — All Breeds

All rams screened for Scrapie resistance (Codon 171) · Certificates available on request

Summer is the most common time to start your search and purchase a ram —  but rams can be bought and sold year-round. Breeding typically happens in fall. Ram lambs born in spring can service ewes by late fall; adult rams can begin breeding earlier in the season. Starting your search early is never a bad idea — good rams go quickly.

We breed Wensleydale, Teeswater, and Valais Blacknose Valais crossesbred sheep in partnership with Pure Valais LLC.
